Our Daily Bread: A look at Ulster bakeries
Category: Irish
Where would we be without it - our daily ration of plain bread, soda and potato farls and all the other delicious things that come from the bakery?
In these 80 pages James Davidson takes a look behind the scenes and brings us an interesting photographic history of some of the best known names in Ulster baking. As well as the premises, James's research has also uncovered pictures of the people behind those famous brand names, some of which have long since disappeared into history.
Many will remember, too, the breadserver calling at the door, with a range of tempting products arranged neatly in the back of his van. From the horse-drawn cart to the diesel van, and the railway container to the articulated lorry, the whole delivery process is illustrated in these pages.
So read on and have a slice of Our Daily Bread.
