Language Skills in RE: Words and thinking activities for Key Stage 4
Category: GCSE RE
This resource is designed to give teachers and pupils opportunities to develop literacy through religious education. It is important that pupils learn not only how to spell and define words, but also that they learn how to use language in an informed and articulate way.
The authors offer a brief glossary of terms drawn from their main textbooks, as well as suggestions for activities which give practice in using language and, through dialogue in the classroom, learning the complexity and flexibility of religious concepts.
James Nelson has been a Head of RE and is now a lecturer at Stranmillis University College, Belfast.
Juliana Gilbride (nee McNeice) is Head of RE in Rainey Endowed School, Magherafelt.
