The North Eastern Region: British Railways in Colour (Nostalgia Road)

Category: Transport

Formed in 1956 from the Eastern Region and with its headquarters at York, the North Eastern Region was one of outstanding contrasts. It ranged from the frimy textile towns of the West Riding to the shipbuilding and coal mining regions of County Durham and Northumberland, to the sylvan scenery of the Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors or Coast. This was also the very birthplace of public railways, and the Stockton and Darlington Railway is just one of the region's many historic lines.

The Authors

The name of Professor Alan Earnshaw will need little introduction to readers of railway books. The author of over 20 railway books and a lecturer in railway history, he has long believed in the need for a range of reasonably-priced books to re-tell the story of British Railways. In this book, with Kevin Derrick as picture editor, he strives to do just that.
