The London Midland Region: British Railways in Colour (Nostalgia Road)

Category: Transport

With a superb collection of images chosen from the Strathwood and Trans-Pennine archives, this book looks at the great days of rail travel from nationalisation up to the end of steam. Steam lasted on the London Midland Region until August 1968, and the north-west of England was the last part of the BR network to lose this form of traction. However, the London Midland Region had witnessed a great diversity of motive power, from the diminutive 'Lanky' 0-4-0 saddle tanks to the great 4-6-2 Pacifics built by Sir William Stanier. This book features the wide variety of London Midland steam, and does so in superb, stunning colour.

The Authors

The name of Professor Alan Earnshaw will need little introduction to readers of railway books. The author of over 20 railway books and a lecturer in railway history, he has long believed in the need for a range of reasonably-priced books to re-tell the story of British Railways. In this book, with Kevin Derrick as picture editor, he strives to do just that.
