The Christian Church
Category: GCSE RE
The popular duo who wrote Christian Morality and The Challenge of Jesus have teamed up again to complete the trilogy of books for GCSE.
This meticulously researched text aims to introduce the student to the five main religious traditions in Northern Ireland. As the authors say in their introduction: The importance of studying the practices and beliefs of different Christian traditions cannot be overemphasised in our religiously divided society. We hope that the materials here will challenge stereotypes and provide stimulating and challenging learning experiences for the children who use them. We have tried as far as possible to represent each of the traditions included as fairly and accurately as possible and we would like to thank the clergy who kindly assisted us in that task.
Students are encouraged to examine their own attitudes and to come to a greater understanding of the issues which surround them, both within and outside thier own cultural context.
Questions and challenging activities are included throughout.
Chapters are: > The Christian year > Church buildings and furnishings > Worship > Sacraments and ordinances > The role of the clergy and church leaders > Church organisation and government > Interdenominational contacts
