An appreciation of how and why population grows, how this growth is managed, why people sometimes move, either within their countries or across international boundaries, sometimes across the globe, is necessary to understand settlement, development, economic activities." (Introduction) The Author Steve Royle, Senior Lecturer in Geography at Queens University, Belfast, studied geography at St Johns College, Cambridge and tool a PhD at Leicester. Formerly President of the Geographical Society of Ireland and the Geographical Association (Belfast branch), he serves on the (Irish) National Committee for Geography and the Council of British Geography.
