One, Two, Three H.E.! Book 2
Category: KS3 HE
Building on the foundation laid by Book One, the second book in this colourful series covers the Programme of Study for Year 9.
The overall layout of the contents is similar to that of Book One, but the level of understanding required is raised appropriately as pupils are drawn into a more in-depth study of familiar themes.
The popular exercises for the key skills of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT are highlighted throughout, as in Book One. Recipes included are also graded appropriately for the level of study.
Diets suitable for the young child and the adolescent are examined, as are advances in technology associated with the preservation and storage of food. Awareness of the greater complexity of issues in the family are studied, such as the impact of a new baby on family life.
As consumers, pupils are taught about society's dependence on both direct and indirect services, such as medical, postal and telephone services. Very practical skills of task management are learnt, particularly in relation to budgeting and household maintenance.
Written by the same four authors, this book follows the very high standard set by One, two, three, HE! Book One in being a most attractive and effective classroom resource.
Anne Scott was previously head of the Home Economics department of St Malachys High School, Antrim, and is now Principal of St Patricks College in Dungiven. Kathryn Wheeler (St Aloysius High School, Cushendall), Doris Torrens (Ballymoney High School), and Pamela Mark (Coleraine College) are each head of their respective Home Economics departments. All four are joint authors of Home Ecomonics for Northern Ireland, published in 1998 by Hodder and Stoughton, and the One Two Three HE! Series, published by Colourpoint 2001-2002.
