This book is a greatly improved new edition of Colourpoints popular text Britain Ireland and Europe 1570-1745. The Race to Rule now includes full colour and a greatly improved layout, bringing it up to the same standard as the others in the series.
Sections are as before: > Causes of European rivalries (including case studies on Mary Queen of Scots and the Spanish Armada); > the experience of colonisation and plantation (including Ireland and in particular, Ulster); > political and religious conflict in Britain (including the Gunpowder plot and Cromwell, particularly Cromwell in Ireland); > the Williamite wars (including the siege of Derry, the Boyne, Limerick and Aughrim).

Audrey Hodge, the author of this new text is one of the original four authors who wrote 'Britain Ireland and Europe'. She is a senior teacher with many years experience of teaching history at secondary level. She obtained her MA in modern and contemporary history at the University of Ulster.
