The Norman Impact on the Medieval World Category: KS3 History This book covers the same period as the special needs text, The Middle Ages (also by Colourpoint), but is aimed both at the general trade and at the mainstream schools market for Year 8, ages about 11 to 12. A most colourful text, it has particular appeal in Ireland because of its use of Irish sites and examples where ever possible. For example, the medieval town is illustrated with examples from Tralee and Carlingford. A study of Norman castles draws on Clough and Carrickfergus. Holy Cross and Inch Abbeys also feature. There is an excellent study of the coming of the Normans to Ireland, including Dermot MacMurrough, Strongbow and John de Courcy. The Author Norman Johnston is a retired history teacher from Bangor in Co Down, Northern Ireland. Before retiring he was Head of History at Omagh Academy and chief Coursework Moderator for GCSE history with the Northern Ireland Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment.
