| These photographs were taken on Friday 21 October 2005, the last day that Routemaster buses were scheduled to operate on route 13 between Aldwych and Golders Green. A number of guest vehicles also put in appearances. Route 159 between Streatham and Marble Arch was set to lose its Routemasters after Friday 9 December 2005. Seen here in the Strand, near the Savoy, Stagecoach RML 2665 prepares to head off to the north London suburbs via Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street and Finchley Road.

Sovereign's RM 659, a standard length example, arrives at Golders Green Station. This photograph shows well the open rear platform which made these vehicles so popular on routes serving the busy Oxford and Regent Streets.

Golders Green again, and refurbished Sovereign's RM 1562, reputed to be the fastest RM in London, heads for the terminus at the station.

After 4pm, and as the light began to fade, Sovereign's RM 2089 was caught by our photographher heading south down the Finchley Road towards Swiss Cottage.

Nearing its terminus at Marble Arch is Arriva's RM 1280 on a 159 journey from Streatham via Brixton and Whitehall, seen here in Oxford Street. One of the Scania OmniDekkas replacing Routemasters on the 13 can be seen to the rear. |

Heading in the opposite direction to RM 1280 is RML 2759, the penultimate Routemaster. The 'L' in the designation denotes long, the RML seating 72 as opposed to the RM's 64. |

Two guest vehicles are seen here at the Aldwych terminus – Metroline's RML 903 passes Blue Triangle's preserved RTW 75 in this late afternoon shot. RTW 75 was certainly a favourite with the photographer. |

London General, who recently replaced its Routemasters on route 14 and 22, have retained RML 887 and repainted it into traditional ‘General’ livery, as seen here at Aldwych. |
